Pat Chat September 29th

The Week That Was
After a tough start to the season on Opening Weekend, the Regina Pats rebounded in a big way against a pair of divisional rivals.  The Trans-Canada Clash began its 2014-15 edition Friday night with the Blue and White hammering their arch-nemesis in Moose Jaw.  Connor Gay tallied a hat-trick as part of a four point night as the Pats went on to a 7-1 win over the Warriors.  Sam Steel and Brady Reagan scored the first goals of their WHL careers in the win.  The following evening saw the Queen City Kids in Prince Albert to take on the Raiders.  Down 3-2 late in the third, Rylee Zimmer was awarded a penalty shot and made good on the attempt for his first WHL goal.  Just minutes later, Adam Brooks finished off a 3-on-1 opportunity to give Regina the 4-3 lead and the win, moving the team to 2-2-0-0 on the season.
The Week Ahead
Saturday, October 4th – Pats vs. Prince Albert (7:00 p.m.)
It’s a divisional rematch when the Prince Albert Raiders visit the Pats at the Brandt Centre.  After the Blue and White got out of the Art Hauser Centre with a win on the weekend, their northern rivals will be hungry to return the favour.  It’s also Pats fans first chance to see newly acquired forward Pavel Padakin in action after Padakin played his first two games on the road over the weekend.
Sunday, October 5th – Pats vs. Red Deer (6:00 p.m.)
The Pats play their first non-divisional game when they host the Conner Bleackley, Adam Musil and the Red Deer Rebels.  Bleackley was selected in the 1st Round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche while Musil was ranked as ‘B’ player on CSS’ “Ones to Watch” list for the 2015 Draft.
Roster Moves
Kyle Burroughs returns from New York Islanders Training Camp
Pats acquire Pavel Padakin (’94) from Calgary in exchange for 2015 3rd Round Bantam pick
Pats release import forward Maximilian Kammerer (’96)
Pats reassign defenceman Ryan Krushen (’98) to Sherwood Park Midget AAA
Keep the Puck
The ‘firsts’ kept on coming for the Pats on the weekend with John Paddock, Dave Struch and Darrin McKechnie earning their first win behind the bench.  Sam Steel, Brady Reagan, Rylee Zimmer and Colton Kroeker each scored the first goals of their WHL careers.
New Face
The Pats added to their scoring depth during the week, bringing in overage import forward Pavel Padakin from the Calgary Hitmen.  Padakin has a proven scoring touch, potting 27 goals last season.  The Ukrainian forward picked up an assist against Prince Albert on Saturday for his first point with the Pats.
