Pats - Warriors Game Day Preview

Head-to-Head
The Regina Pats (0-2-0-0) head out on the road for a pair of games this weekend starting with their arch rivals, the Moose Jaw Warriors (0-2-0-0).  Both teams began the season on a losing note as the Pats fell to the Brandon Wheat Kings while Moose Jaw dropped a pair of contests against Swift Current.  Last season, Regina held sway over the season series, winning all eight matchups between the teams.  Kyle Burroughs led returning Pats against the Warriors in 2013-14 with eight points (2G, 6A) in seven games.  Brayden Point was the top Warrior with eight points (4G, 4A) versus Regina last season.  This evening’s game can be heard on 620 CKRM starting at 6:35 p.m.
Lead Up: Wheat Kings Trump Pats 6-1 in Home Opener
Penalties were the Pats’ kryptonite in the first home game of their 2014-15 season.  Despite killing three of four Brandon powerplays in the first, the Blue and White couldn’t stem the tide forever.  After a second period where the home side generated scoring chances, but couldn’t find the back of the net; the Wheat Kings scored three powerplay goals in the third to break the game wide open.  Jesse Gabrielle had a hat-trick while Dryden Hunt scored the lone Pats goal with 12 seconds remaining to break the shutout.
Adding Some Offence
Regina added some offence this week by acquiring import overage forward Pavel Padakin from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for a 2017 3rd Round WHL Bantam Draft pick.  Padakin scored 27 goals last season to go with 27 assists and 59 penalty minutes.  Due to adding Padakin, the Pats also released German forward Maximilian Kammerer from the roster.
Blue Line Boost
Kyle Burroughs has returned from New York Islanders Training Camp.  The 7th Round NHL Draft pick stayed in Long Island over a week longer than last season despite not seeing pre-season action.  Burroughs was second among Pats defenceman in scoring last season with 40 points (8G, 32A).
