Pats - Wheat Kings Game Day Preview

Head-to-Head
The Regina Pats (0-0-0-0) open the 2014-15 WHL Regular Season tonight against the Brandon Wheat Kings (0-0-0-0).  This meeting marks the seventh consecutive game the teams face off (non-exhibition) going back to the final two games of the 2012-13 Regular Season.  Of the players in action tonight, Connor Gay led the Pats with nine points (4G, 5A) in eight games against Brandon while Peter Quenneville was the top Wheat King, totaling 15 points (7G, 8A) in seven games.  This evening’s game can be heard on 620 CKRM starting at 6:05 p.m. CST
Lead Up: Pats 4-2-1-0 in Pre-SeasonThe Blue and White got off to a hot start in the WHL’s exhibition season, going undefeated in the Extreme Hockey Pre-Season Tournament with wins over Moose Jaw, Calgary and Lethbridge.  They proceeded to split a home-and-home set with Brandon before dropping a pair of games to Prince Albert to close the pre-season.  Sam Steel led the Pats and WHL with ten points (6G, 4A) in four games played.
Youth MovementThe Blue and White have seen a significant infusion of young talent to the roster this season with eight rookies to start the season.  All eight are 17 or younger with five of them coming from the 1997 birth year.  The Pats 2012 WHL Bantam Draft is well represented with seven players on the team from that draft year (Regan, Cole, Zimmer, Wagner, Kroeker, Hilsendager, McAmmond).
Develop from Within
Regina is showing a new commitment to developing from within and that shows in the breakdown.  23 of the Pats’ 26 players on the roster were drafted (WHL/Import) or listed by the team.  Logan McVeigh, Daniel Wapple and Carter Hansen represent the only players acquired through trades.
