The Regina Pats were in Moose Jaw on Friday night looking to get into the win column for the first time this season against the Warriors. The Pats dropped their opening two games to Brandon while Moose Jaw lost twice to Swift Current. The Pats saw captain Kyle Burroughs play in his first game after being re-assigned from New York while Pavel Padakin played his first game as a Pat. Colton Kroeker also played in his first game of the year. The Warriors got Brayden Point and Dallas Valentine back into the lineup after missing time at NHL camps. Last season the Pats won all 8 match-ups against their biggest rivals and Tyler Fuhr got the start in goal for the Blue and White. The Pats scratches on Friday were Carter Hansen, Morgan Klimchuk, Logan McVeigh and Rylee Zimmer.

In the first period the Warriors got off to a great start and had a lot of early pressure but Tyler Fuhr was sharp in the Pats goal and kept the game scoreless. The Pats would open the scoring on a fast break as Connor Gay streaked up the left wing and beat Justin Paulic on the short side for his 1st of the year at 5:06. Kyle Burroughs the lone assist and it was 1-0 Regina. The Warriors would then get the first powerplay and 33 seconds in went up 2 men. The Pats would kill the first minute before the Warriors took a penalty of their own and it was a 4 on 3 man advantage. Just as that expired the Warriors would tie it as Brett Howden scored his first of the year at 8:49 from Brayden Point and Blake Bargar and it was 1-1. The Pats retook the lead at 10:18 as Colby Williams made a great move around Dallas Valentine and fired into the far corner for his first to make it 2-1. Dryden Hunt and Sergey Zborovskiy the assists. The Pats made it 3-1 with a powerplay goal and it came from Sam Steel who got a lucky bounced and fired into an open net. The goal came at 13:03 with the lone assist to Dryden Hunt. The two teams went back and forth after that. The Pats lost their captain Kyle Burroughs late in the frame as he took a hit from Linden Penner and looked to be concussed. The Pats took the 3-1 lead into the break and outshot the Warriors 11-10 in the period.

In the second the Pats went up 4-1 as Connor Gay put home his second of the game at 1:09. Braden Chritsoffer the lone assist. Connor Gay would complete the hattrick at 8:11 on a beautiful move and finish to make it 5-1. Braden Christoffer the first assist and James Hilsendager the second which was his first WHL point. That was it for Justin Paulic in goal for Moose Jaw as he allowed 5 goals on 13 shots and was replaced by Zachary Sawchenko. Things got scrappy after that as Luc Smith laid a big hit in the offensive zone. The Warriors took exception and Tyler Brown and Rykr Cole  ended up dropping the gloves. Smith was given  a 5 minute major for charging and a game misconduct. The Warriors took a roughing minor in hat scrum so we played four on four before Moose Jaw went up a man. 8 seconds into the man advantage Moose Jaw took a too many men penalty and the Pats would kill off the remaining minute after that and still led 5-1. That's how the period ended with the Pats outshooting Moose Jaw 10-8 in the frame and 21-18 overall.

In the third the Pats made it 6-1 at 3:29 as Patrick D'Amico put home his first of the year on a nice feed from Adam Brooks. Austin Wagner the second assist. Then at 8:29 Brady Reagan fired from the blue line and scored his first WHL goal and it was 7-1 Regina. Connor Gay and Sam Steel the assists. James Hilsendager completed his night with a good fight with Jaimen Yakubowski. The game ended 7-1 and the Pats got their first win of the season. Tyler Fuhr had a great night making 24 saves on 25 shots for his first victory with the blue and white.

Braden Christoffer was the games third star with 2 assists in the game. Dryden Hunt was the second star, also with 2 assists and the first star went to Connor Gay with the hattrick and an assist.

The Pats are back at it Saturday night in Prince Albert against the Raiders with a 7 o'clock puck drop on 620 CKRM.
