REGINA THUNDER VS CALGARY COLTS GAME PREVIEW


The top ranked team in the country the Regina Thunder return home for the first time in a month to host the Calgary Colts on Sunday at Mosaic Stadium. The Thunder are riding a three game winning streak with all of those games coming on the road. Most recently Regina won in Winnipeg 43-20 to improve to 4 and 1 on the season and take over sole possession of 1st place in the PFC. The Thunder defense scored twice in the game while the offense put up over 500 yards of net offense. The Calgary Colts are 1 and 4 on the year and tied with the Edmonton Huskies for last place. The Colts lost at home to the Saskatoon Hilltops last week 47-19.

OFFENSIVE MATCH-UP

The Thunder have scored 139 points in 5 games for a 27.8 per game average. They have scored the third most points in the league and are a plus 44 in points for and against which is second. They have accumulated 122 first downs, 594 rushing yards and 1467 through the air. The team has thrown 11 interceptions, fumbled three times and turned it over on downs three times.

Quarterback Jaeden Marwick is 98 of 160 passing for 1279 yards, 6 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Marwick leads the PFC in passing yards and completion percentage at 61.3.

Receiver Preston Bews leads the club with 380 yards on 27 catches and has scored 4 touchdowns. Bews is the third leading receiver int he league and is tied for the lead in touchdowns.

Kasim Ocaya has caught 19 balls for 287 yards and a touchdown this year to date, He is 5th in receiving yards in the league.

Kristian Desautels has caught 17 passes for 218 yards, running back Matt Frass 13 for 134 and two touchdowns, Levi Paul 8 for 99 and a score, Thomas Bresciani 6 for 98, Justin Bannin 6 for 68, Brady Keller 5 for 60, Reuben Viveros 5 for 57, Colton Klassen 4 for 49 and Adam Peterson 1 for 17.

Running back Colton Klassen leads the team with 220 yards on 35 carries and has scored two touchdowns. He is 5th in league rushing.

Matt Frass has 45 carries for 127 yards, Justin Bannin 23 for 62 and 2 touchdowns and Jaeden Marwick has 25 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown.

The Colts offense has scored 120 points in 5 games for a 24 per game average. Only the Huskies have scored less points this year and the Colts are a minus 59 in points for and against. They have accumulated 80 first downs, 641 rushing yards and 991 through the air. The team has thrown 10 interceptions, lost 6 fumbles and turned it over on downs 3 times.

Quarterback Cole Meyer is 40 of 92 passing for 681 yards, 3 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He is 7th in league passing yards.

Matt Fortini is 15 of 37 passing for 173 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 picks while Brett Hunchak is 9 of 23 for 126 yards through the air with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Runningback Cam Fox leads the team in receiving with 16 catches for 215 yards and a touchdown. Jevon Cottoy has 11 catches for 194 yards on the year, Receiver Cole Bazinet has 138 yards in the air on 8 catches and has scored 2 touchdowns, Jags Bahai 3 for 129 and Matt Mantello 3 for 54.

Cam Fox leads the rushing attack with 399 yards on 83 carries and has 3 touchdowns. Xavier Ramsay has 14 carries for 94 yards and a touchdown. Cole Meyer 17 for 32 and 3 scores.

DEFENSIVE MATCH-UP

The Thunder defense has given up a league low 94 points in 5 games played for an 18.8 per game average. The team has given up 83 first downs, 713 rushing yards and 1001 through the air, They have 5 interceptions, 9 fumble recoveries, forced three turnovers on downs and scored 2 touchdowns to go along with 4 sacks.

DL Michael Desjarlais leads the team with 17 tackles and also has 5 assisted.

LB Brandon Whitehouse is next with 16 tackles, he also has a fumble recovery, an interception and a sack.

LB Brett Selinger has put up 12 tackles to go with a fumble return touchdown which came last week.

Terri Giovannetti has 10 tackles, 3 assisted and a knockdown. LB Taylor Garrett is the reigning PFC defensive player of the week, for the season he has 11 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 knockdowns and an interception. DB Royce Hanna has 7 tackles an interception, a fumble recovery and a knockdown Ryan Warner with 7 tackles, 7 assisted a forced fumble and a half a sack. DB Chris Tunnicliffe, 2 interceptions, fumble return TD and 4 knockdowns, Jaren Wirth a forced fumble, fumble recovery and a blocked kick.

The Calgary Colts have given up the second most points with 179 in 5 games, that's a 35.8 per game average. The team has given up 89 first downs, 562 rushing yards and 1139 through the air. The defense has 7 interceptions, 5 fumble recoveries and have forced 4 turnovers on downs.
