Silvertips' Stadnyk WHL Player of the Week

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips’forward Carson Stadnyk is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 28, 2014.  

Stadnyk recorded three goals and four assists for seven points along with a +4 rating in two games during the past week, leading the Silvertips to a pair of road victories over the Portland Winterhawks.

On Saturday, September 27th, Stadnykscored two goals and added an assist while being named the game’s 1st Star in a 5-1 victory over the Winterhawks. On Sunday, September 28th, he notched a goal and three assists while earning 2nd Star honours in a 6-4 victory in Portland as the Silvertips improved to 3-0-0-0 to begin the 2014-15 WHL Regular Season.

Stadnyk, an 18-year-old from Saskatoon, SK, is in his third season in the WHL with the Silvertips.  He currently leads the ‘Tips and sits tied for fourth in WHL scoring with seven points through three games. The Silvertips’ eighth-round pick, 169th overall, in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, Stadnyk has appeared in 147 career regular season contests, amassing 34 goals and 58 points. Stadnyk is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft.

The WHL has also nominated Tristan Jarry of the Edmonton Oil Kings for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award.  A 19-year-old from Delta, B.C., Jarry posted a 2-0-0-0 record in two starts over the past week, allowing just two goals on 63 shots for a 1.00 goals against average and a .968 save percentage in that span. On Friday, September 26th, Jarry stopped 25 of 26 shots to post his first win of the season as the Oil Kings skated to a 5-1 road victory over the Swift Current Broncos. On Saturday, September 27th, Jarry turned aside 36 of 37 shots and was named the game’s 1st Star in a 2-1 win over the Tigers in Medicine Hat.  Now in his fourth season in the WHL with the Oil Kings, Jarry has amassed a 72-23-3-1 record with 14 shutouts in 106 career regular season games. Jarry was selected in the second round, 44th overall, by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2013 NHL Draft.
