Thunder 43 Rifles 20 - Stats Look


The Regina Thunder improved to 4 and 1 on the season on Sunday with a 43-20 win in Winnipeg over the Rifles. It was another good showing for the run defense of the Thunder who gave up just 57 yards on the ground and after just 70 yards last week the team seems to have shored things up in that area. The Rifles did have some success through the air with 347 yards and 2 touchdowns but the Thunder D scored twice on the 5 turnovers they forced. The offense had a great day with 525 yards of net offense with 112 along the ground and 415 through the air.

Here is a look at the stats leaders for the game.

Quarterback Jaeden Marwick was 26 of 40 passing for 415 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Kasim Ocaya led the team in receiving yards with 111 on 4 catches and a touchdown. Thomas Bresciani was next with 5 grabs for 90 yards in the game.

Preston Bews put up 73 yards on a team high 7 catches and scored his 4th touchdown of the year. Kristiane Desautels had 5 for 61 yards,

Matt Frass 2 for 42, Adam Peterson 1 for 17 and Levi Paul 1 for 15 which went for a touchdown.

Running back Colton Klassen had a good game on the ground with 9 carries for 93 yards. Matt Frass had 6 carries for 8 yards, Justin Bannin 2 for 7 and Jaeden Marwick 2 for 4 yards.

On defense the Thunder had a great day. Chris Tunnicliffe ran back an interception 14 yards and had a 27 yard fumble return for a TD in the 4th quarter. Linebacker Brett Selinger also scored a defensive touchdown on a 41 yard scoop and run.

LB Brandon Whitehouse led the team in tackles with 6 and added 2 on special teams. DB Macus Hall was next with 5 tackles in the win and 1 on teams.

LB Taylor Garrett put up three tackles, a sack, 2 knockdowns and an interception and led the team in defensive points with 17.

On special teams kicker William McGee punted 4 times for 156 yards and a long of 52. He was 2 of 4 kicking field goals in the game and is now 10 for 14 on the year.

Marcus Hall and Colton Klassen each had 28 yards in kickoff returns. Menedum Menegbo put up 18 yards on his lone kickoff return and Kristine Desautel returned one kick for 17 yards.

The first place Regina Thunder will return home for the first time since August 24th this weekend when they host the Calgary Colts at Mosaic Stadium. Kickoff is at 1 o'clock live on Access 7.
