Pats - Hitmen Game Day Preview

Head-to-Head
The Regina Pats (5-4-1-0) wrap up a three-in-three set with their first game against the Calgary Hitmen (5-4-0-1).  The Pats captured a 6-5 victory over the Hitmen in the pre-season and were 2-2-0-0 against Calgary in 2013-14.  Morgan Klimchuk led the Pats with four points (2G, 2A) in three games against Calgary last season.  Jake Virtanen led the Hitmen with five goals in four games versus Regina.  Coming into tonight’s game the Pats got themselves back in the win column with a 6-1 win over Lehtbridge last night.  Calgary dropped a 5-1 decision to the Tigers yesterday.  You can listen to tonight’s contest on RM2 (Sportscage.ca) online with Home Depot Pats Hockey starting at 3:35 p.m.

Lead Up: Pats Offence Attacks in 6-1 Win Over Lethbridge
Dryden Hunt scored late in the first period to bring the Pats even with the Hurricanes 1-1 after one period.  From then on it was all Pats as the Blue and White went on to score six unanswered.  Colby Williams got them the lead early in the second followed by markers from Austin Wagner and Morgan Klimchuk.  Connor Gay and Patrick D’Amico each scored to run the score up to 6-1.  Tyler Brown earned the win.

Klimchuk Back in Action
The Pats got a major boost to their lineup with Morgan Klimchuk returning to game action.  The Calgary Flames 1st Round pick scored a powerplay goal in his season debut.  The Calgary native is the Pats leading returning scorer after a 74 point (30G, 44A) season in 2013-14.

Breaking the Slump
After only scoring only one goal over their previous two contests, the Pats found the back of the net on a regular basis last night.  Six different scorers counted in on the goal column and the Queen City Kids buried on two of their four powerplay chances.

Padakin Returns
Over-age import forward Pavel Padakin returns to the Saddledome for the first time since being traded to the Pats by the Hitmen at the beginning of the season.  Since joining Regina, Padakin has a goal and four assists in eight games.  The Blue and White acquired Padakin from Calgary for a 2017 3rd Round  pick.
