The Regina Pats returned home and played their 4th game in 5 nights on Tuesday at the Brandt Centre against the Portland Winterhawks. The Pats were coming off a three game road trip where they went 1 and 2 and sat 5-5-1-0 on the season. Morgan Klimchuk made his home debut on Tuesday and Tyler Brown got his second WHL start in goal and first at the Brandt Centre. The Winterhawks entered the game coming off a 10-3 drubbing at the hands of the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday. The Hawks were just 2-8-0-2 on the year coming in. It was the first and only meeting of the season between the two clubs. Here are the lineups with the starters highlighted.

In the first period the Pats got off to a good start and got the games first powerplay. They had some good pressure but were unable to score. The Winterhawks got the games second man advantage and the Pats almost scored short handed but on the ensuing rush Keegan Iverson took a pass in the slot and fired his 2nd of the yea 5 hole to make it 1-0 Portland. Evan Weinger and Nicolas Petan the assists at 6:33. The Pats went to their second powerplay in the middle part of the period but on it gave up a shorthanded goal to Skyler McKenzie at 12:30, his first in the WHL. Chase De Leo the lone assist and it was 2-0. The Pats had some chances after that but Brenden Burke made the saves he needed to and the period ended with a 2-0 scoreline. The Pats outshot the Hawks 13-11 in the period.

In the second period the Pats found their first goal 36 seconds in as Dryden Hunt spun and fired a backhand into the top corner past Brenden Burke for an unbelievable goal, his team leading 6th of the season. Connor Gay the lone assist and it was 2-1. The Pats got their third poweprlay shortly after and came oh so close to tieing the game as Colby Williams hit the post but it stayed out. Both teams had good chances as they went back and forth in the period but both goaltenders held and made some big stops. The Hawks hit a couple of cross bars but could not restore the 2 goal lead. The Pats got another powerplay late in the frame but Portland killed the time left in the period and 18 seconds carried over into the 3rd for the man advantage. Regina led the shots in the frame 10-8 and 23-19 overall.

In the third the Pats kept coming, they had two powerplays to find a tieing goal but could not out one into the back of the net. Brenden Burke hurt himself making a pad save in the third and was forced to leave after stopping 24 of 25 shots faced. Bolton Pouliot repaced him and shut the door. The Winterhawks got a late 5 on 3 powerplay and on it Chase De Leo banged home his 7th of the year at 18:17 to make it 3-1. Assists to Miles Koules and Nicolas Petan. That was the final score, the Pats outshot the Hawks 12-11 in the period and 35-30 overall. Tyler Brown played well in goal stopping 27 of 30 shots faced.

The Pats powerplay went oh for 7 and gave up a shorty while the penalty kill went 2 for 4.

The third star of the game went to the Pats Morgan Klimchuk. The second star to the Winterhawks Brendan Burke who stopped 24 of 25 shots faced and the first star to Keegan Iverson who scored the games first goal.

The Pats are back in action on Friday in Swift Current against the Winterhawks at 7 o'clock.
