PATS 5 RAIDERS 2


The Regina Pats played their second home game of the season on Saturday night with the Prince Albert Raiders in town. The Pats had been off since the previous Saturday when they won in P.A. 4-3 in come from behind fashion. The Pats got captain Kyle Burroughs back into the lineup for Saturday after missing one game with an upper body injury while Luc Smith returned after serving his one game suspension. Morgan Klimchuk was in Regina for the game but did not suit up, still out with a wrist injury. The Pats were looking for their third straight win on this night against the Raiders who were two points ahead in the East Division Standings. The Raiders were in action on Friday night and won in a shootout at home to the Moose Jaw Warriors 3-2. Daniel Wapple got the start in goal for the Pats while Nick McBride got the nod for the Raiders. The Pats scratches on Saturday were Tyler Fuhr, Carter Hansen, Morgan Klimchuk, Logan McVeigh and Rylee Zimmer.

In the first period the Pats came out with a good start and carried the bulk of the play in the early going. The Pats would get the games first powerplay but did not score. The Raiders would get the next man advantage but then took a penalty of their own and we played an extended 4 on 4. Shorty after that the Pats would go to the PP again and found the games first goal as Braden Christoffer tipped home his 2nd of the season from Chase Harrison and Connor Gay at 12:30 and the Pats led 1-0. The Raiders would get their second man advantage of the period shortly after and on it Jordan Tkatch tied the game with his 2nd of the year at 14:51. The assists to Brendan Guhle and Craig Leverton. The Pats would retake the lead at 18:22 as Austin Wagner made a great pass into the left circle to Patrick D'Amico who fired home his 3rd of the year. Colby Williams the second assist and it was 2-1. That's how the period ended with the Pats leading the shots on goal 10-5.

In the second the Raiders got another powerplay in the early going but the Pats would kill it off and then got a poweplayof their own. On it Braden Christoffer scored his second of the game and 3rd of the season on an fantastic feed from Colton Kroeker at 7:12 and it was 3-1. Chase Harrison the second assist for his second point of the night. The Raiders would get two more powerplays in the frame which the Pats would kill off. The period ended with the Pats leading by two, they outshot the Raiders 10-9 in the frame and led overall 20-14.

In the third the Pats kept the pressure coming and would make it 4-1 at 6:58. Austin Wagner put home a rebound for his 1st of the year with the lone assist to Adam Brooks. The Pats kept pushing and had some great scoring chances but Nick McBride made some fantastic saves to keep his team within 3. The Raiders would get within 2 with a poerplay goal at 9:07. Brendan Guhle would fire from the blueline, off the post and in for his first of the year and it was 4-2. Craig Leverton and Jordan Tkatch with assists. The Pats sealed the victory at the 18:56 mark as Dryden Hunt put one into the empty net for his second of the year and it was 5-2. Pavel Padakin with the lone assist and the Pats won their third straight game.

The Pats went 2 for 7 on the powerplay and 6 for 8 on the penalty kill in the win. Daniel Wapple stopped 23 of 25 shots for his second win of the season.

The third star of the game went to the Pats Patrick D'Amico who had a goal in the game. The second star to the Raiders Jordan Tkatch who scored a goal and added an assist and the first star to the Pats Braden Christoffer who scored twice.

The Pats are back in action Sunday night at 6 home to the Red Deer Rebels at the Brandt Centre.

Disappointed in the play of Padikan for taking two roster spots one as a Euro the other as one of the team 20 year olds.

The Pats should keep the three 20 year olds they originally had.

he is coming around he is not the prime focus right now he has skills its not like he isn't getting chances if he wasn't then id be worried. Hes been getting his nose dirty going to the tougher areas he will get a goal here soon enough could be as early as tonight.

BTw Phil great interview with Wagner last night the guy loves to talk by the sounds of it
