AMERICANS 3 PATS 1


The Regina Pats (4-2-1-0) wrapped up a four game home stand on Friday night at home to the Tr-City Americans at the Brandt Centre. The Pats were riding a streak of 5 straight games with at least a point, 4 of those wins and the other an overtime loss. Colby Williams had points in every one of those 5 games with a goal and 4 assists. Connor Gay was riding a 3 gamer coming in with 4 assists in that stretch. The Tri-City Americans entered the game having won 3 of 4 and sat atop the U.S. Division in the Western Conference at 5-3-0-0. Most recently they came back to win in Saskatoon 5-3 over the Blades on Thursday night. Parker Bowles was tied for 7th in league scoring coming in with 11 points while Brian Williams was tied for 12th with 10 points on the year. Winnipeg Jest second round pick Eric Comrie got the start in goal for the Americans while Daniel Wapple got the call for Regina, his 5th straight start. In the first period the Pats had the early jump and went to the games first powerplay. On it Pavel Padakin fired and hit the face of Dryden Hunt and it went into the goal for his 4th of the year. Sam Steel the second assist at 4:31 and it was 1-0 Regina. The Pats kept pushing but could not beat Eric Comrie. The Americans would get their first powerplay with under 4 minutes left in the frame and 5 seconds into it Parker Bowles would tie the game for Tri-City at 16:33 and it was 1-1. Beau McCue with the lone assist. The Pats would get their second powerplay late in the period but were unable to score and the period ended tied at 1's. The Pats outshot Tri-City 14-5 in the frame.

In the second the game got a little sloppy with the puck bouncing all over the place. The Americans found the go ahead goal at 5:10 as Jackson Playfair beat Daniel Wapple on the short side for his 2nd of the year from Ty Comrie and it was 2-1 Tri-City. Both teams struggled to get anything going after that, the Americans got the lone man advantage of the period but were unable to score and the frame ended with Tri up 2-1. The Americans outshot the Pats 14-5 in the period and the shots were tied at 19's apiece through 40.

In the third the Pats found their game a little and had some good chances but Eric Comrie was on his game and kept his team ahead by a goal. The Americans had the lone powerplay of the frame which the Pats killed off. Tri City found the 3-1 goal at 15:03 off a turnover and Braden Putrill fired off a stick and through the 5 hole of Wapple and in for his 1st of the year. Ty Comrie with the lone assist. The Pats would empty the net late but were unable to get another goal and the Americans took the 3-1 decision. The shots on goal in the 3rd were 11-11 and 30-30 overall.

The Pats powerplay went 1 for 2 in the game and the PK went 2 for 3.

The third star of the game went to the Americans Jackson Playfair who scored the game winning goal. The second star to the Pats Daniel Wapple who made 27 saves on 30 shots in the loss and the first star to the Americans Eric Comrie who stopped 29 of 30 shots faced.

The Pats are off until Friday October 17th when they play in Cranbrook against the Kootenay Ice.
