REGINA THUNDER VS CALGARY COLTS SEMI-FINAL PREVIEW


The Regina Thunder start their defense of their 2013 PFC and Canadian Bowl Championship on Saturday at home to the Calgary Colts. The Thunder finished the season with a 5-2-1 record while the Colts went 4 and 4, winning their final three games of the year. The Colts won the lone meeting of the season between the two clubs in Week 7, 20-13. That was the game Jaeden Marwick was knocked out for the year with a punctured lung. The other semi-final sees Saskatoon home to the Winnipeg Rifles.

OFFENSIVE MATCH-UP

The Thunder offense scored 204 points in the 8 game regular season for a 25.5 per game average. The team threw for 2042 yards and put up 1068 along the ground. The team threw 14 interceptions, lost 9 fumbles and turned it over 5 times on downs.

Quarterback Spencer Mack will make his third straight start on Saturday. He went 47 of 88 in the regular season for 594 yards, 4 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

Receiver Preston Bews led the team with 636 yards on 45 carries and scored 5 touchdowns. He is the leagues 4th leading receiver.

Kasim Ocaya finished the year with 422 yards on 32 catches and scored one touchdown.

Nick Brown has taken over as the teams starting running back. In two games he has put up 235 yards.

Colton Klassen was the Thunder's leading rusher with 294 yards on 52 carries and scored 3 touchdowns.

Matt Frass was next with 250 yards on 69 carries and has 1 touchdown.

The Colts offense has scored 223 points this season for a 27.8 per game average. The team has thrown for 1405 yards and rushed for 2031. They threw 9 interceptions, lost 6 fumbles and turned it over on downs 4 times.

QB Brett Hunchak was 55 of 103 for 794 yards passing with 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Cole Meyer was 40 of 92 for 681 yards, 3 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

Jevon Cottoy led the team in receiving yardage with 524 on 26 catches and scored 4 touchdowns.

Cameron Fox was the leagues second leading rusher with 631 yards on 135 carries and scored 6 times.

DEFENSIVE MATCH-UP

The Thunder defense has given up a league low 159 points in 8 games for a 19.8 per game average. They have allowed 1077 rushing yards and 1941 through the air. The defense has 5 interceptions, 7 fumble recoveries and have forced 5 turnovers on downs.

LB Brandon Whitehouse who sat out the final game of the year leads the club with 31 tackles, he has 6 assisted, 4 sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception.

DB Chris Tunnicliffe has 16 tackles, 5 assisted, a blocked kick, 5 knockdowns, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and 3 interceptions.

LB Brett Selinger with 20 tackles, 10 assisted and 2 knockdowns. DB Dustin Erbach 20 tackles, 3 assisted, 5 knockdowns, a forced fumble, a recovery and an interception.

DL Michael Desjarlais with 20 tackles, 5 assisted, a sack 2 knockdowns and a fumble return touchdown.

The Calgary defense has allowed 215 points this season for a 26.8 per game average. They have allowed 907 rushing yards and 1509 through the air. The defense has 14 interceptions, 13 fumble recoveries and have forced 7 turnovers on downs.

Jakub Jakoubek leads the Colts with 45 tackles, he has 16 assisted, 4 knockdowns, 2 forced fumbles, 2 recoveries including a touchdown and has 2 interceptions.

Colten Burr has 37 tackles, 6 assisted, a knockdown, a forced fumble and 2 interceptions.

Chris Friesen with 22 tackles, 7 assisted, 3 sacks, 2 knockdowns, a forced fumble and 2 interceptions. Dylan Niedermaier has 25 tackles, 5 assisted, 3 knockdowns, a forced fumble and recovery and 3 interceptions, one of which he returned for a major.

SPECIAL TEAMS MATCH-UP

Thunder kicker William McGee has punted 55 times for 1910 yards and a 34.73 yard average. His long on the year is 62 yards. Mcgee is 15 of 23 kicking field goals with a long of 47.

Kristiane Desautels is second in the PFC in punt return yardage with 226 on 28 run backs. He also has 278 yards in kickoff returns including a 90 yard touchdown.

Menedum Menegbo has 10 kickoff returns for 259 yards on the year.

Colts kicker Marshal broom has punted 70 times for 2568 yards and a 36.69 yard average with a long of 53. He is 14 of 20 kicking field goals, his longest coming from 45 yards out.

Andy MacDonald has amassed 178 yards in punt returns on 22 run backs. He also has 171 yards on kickoff returns.

Xavier Ramsay has returned 8 kickoffs for 210 yards while Kieko King has 192 yards on 7 run backs. King put up 114 yards on punt returns as well this season.
