Royals claim Russian defenceman off Waivers

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals claimed 1997-born defenceman Marsel Ibragimov off of WHL Import Waivers today from the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Kazan, Russia native was drafted in the first round by Edmonton in the 2014 CHL Import Draft (58th overall). Ibragimov has skated in one game for the Oil Kings this season.

The 6-2, 197 lb defenceman was selected in the second round with the 52nd overall pick by Dinamo Minsk in last year’s Kontinental Hockey League Draft.

Victoria has placed 1996-born Slovakian forward Kristian Ferletak on WHL Import Waivers.

The Royals begin a season long six game road trip tonight with a contest against the Calgary Hitmen. Puck drop is scheduled at 6:00 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time).
