Silvertips, Nikolishin named WHL Player of the Week

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips’forward Ivan Nikolishin is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 12, 2014.  

Nikolishin tallied two goals and four assists for six points along with a +4 rating in two games over the past week, leading the Silvertips to a pair of victories in that span.

On Friday, October 10th, Nikolishin scored and set up two more for a three-point effort while earning 2nd Star honors in a 6-2 win over the visiting Portland Winterhawks.  On Saturday, October 11th, he enjoyed his second straight three-point outing, notching a goal and two assists in a 5-1 triumph over the Blazers in Kamloops, B.C.

Nikolishin, an 18-year-old from Moscow, Russia, is in his second season in the WHL with the Everett Silvertips.  The 5’9”, 170-lb forward has amassed 20 goals and 68 points in 79 career regular season games, including two goals and nine points in seven games to start the 2014-15 season.  Nikolishin was selected in the second round, 70th overall, in the 2013 CHL Import Draft.  He is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft.

The WHL has also nominated Landon Bow of the Swift Current Broncos for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. The 19-year-old from St. Albert, AB, posted a 2-1 record with two shutouts in three appearances over the past week, allowing just three goals on 76 shots for a 1.00 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage in that span.  On Friday, October 10th, Bow stopped all 26 shots he faced while earning 3rd Star honors in a 5-0 shutout win over the visiting Kootenay Ice.  He followed up with his second straight shutout on Saturday, October 11th, stopping all 25 shots while being named the game’s 2nd Star in a 2-0 victory over the visiting Tri-City Americans.  Bow’s only loss of the week came in a 4-0 shutout defeat to the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday, October 7th.  Bow is in his third season in the WHL with the Broncos, and has posted 24 wins with four shutouts in 51 career appearances.  Bow was selected by the Broncos in the fourth round, 74th overall, in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft.  He is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft.
