The Regina Pats were in the Alberta capital on Friday night for their second meeting of the season with the Edmonton Oil Kings. The Pats were coming off a 6-4 loss in Lethbridge on Wednesday which snapped a 3 game wining streak. The Oil Kings meanwhile had lost two in a row, most recently in Swift Current Tuesday against the Broncos 4-2. The Pats Adam Brooks was red hot entering the game riding a four game point streak with 7 goals and 5 assists in that stretch. Brooks was up to 14th in WHL scoring and tied for 5th on goals. Goaltender Daniel Wapple missed the game because of an illness so the Pats calleed up Kurtis Chapman to back up Tyler Brown. The Pats won the first meeting against the Oil Kings on Sunday 5-3. In the first period the Pats got off to a great start and scored just 28 seconds in. Rykr Cole stole a puck on left wing at center, beat his man wide and beat Alec Dillon 5-hole for his 2nd of the year unassisted and it was 1-0 Regina. Just over 2 minutes later the Pats made it a 2-0 game. Brady Pouteau fired from the left corner, Dillon made the initial stop but Pouteau followed and jammed in the rebound for his 2nd of the year. Assists to Luc Smith and Jared Freadrich at 2:49. Freadrich with his first WHL point on the goal. That was it for Alec Dillon in the Oil Kings goal after allowing 2 goals on 4 shots. Patrick Dea replaced him. The Pats then took two straight penalties and on the second the Oil Kings got on the board. Dario Meyer hammered a one timer from the right circle for his 2nd of the year. Brett Pollock and Dysin Mayo the assists and it was 2-1 Pats at 8:16. The Pats got two powerplays after that but could not score and the period ended with a 2-1 scoreline. The Oil Kings ended up outshooting the Pats 15-10 in the period.

In the second the two clubs went back and forth but did not score. The Oil Kings picked up their 3rd powerplay at the 6 minute mark but the Pats killed it off. The Pats then went to their 3rd powerplay and also did not score but did find the back of the net a short time later. Austin Wagner streaked up the left wing on a 2 on 1 and fired a perfect shot into the top corner far side for his second of the year at 10:50. Rykr Cole the lone assist and it was a 3-1 Pats lead. The Pats really pushed after that, had another powerplay and came close in the final couple minutes but the game remained 3-1 after 2 periods. The Pats led the shots in the frame 14-13 but trailed overall 28-24. Tyler Brown another really good period and had 27 saves through 2 periods.

In the third the Oil Kings pressed and threw everything at Tyler Brown. They finally broke through on their powerplay at 12:40. Colton Kehler put home a rebound for his first WHL goal. Assists to Lane Bauer and Anatolii Elizarov and the Pats lead was 3-2. Edmonton kept coming and coming but Tyler Brown had all the answers. WIth the net empty late the Pats sealed the victory when Sam Steel scored his 3rd from Austin Wagner and Adam Brooks at 19:13 to make it 4-2 and gave the Pats the victory. The Oil Kings outshot the Pats 15-6 in the third and 43-30 overall.

The Pats powerplay was oh for 4 in the game while the penalty kill was 3 for 5.

The third star of the game went to the Oil Kings Dario Meyer who had a goal in the loss. The second star to the Pats Tyler Brown who stopped 41 of 43 shots for his first win of the year and the 1st star to the Pats Ryker Cole who had a goal and an assist but did leave the game in the second after blocking a shot with his arm.

The Pats are back at it Sunday in Calgary against the Hitmen at 4 o'clock on 620 CKRM.
