Giants acquire Wesley from Hurricanes

Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants announced on Monday that the hockey club has acquired 1997-born forward Johnny Wesley from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for an eighth round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft. The Giants have also reassigned 1999-born forward James Malm to the Valley West Hawks of the BC Major Midget League and released 1997-born forward Haydn Hopkins.

“We’re excited to add Johnny back to our group,” said Giants Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Bonner. “He’s a player who has good offensive upside that we think will fit in great with our group. We would also like to thank Haydn for his time with the club and wish him all the best in the future.”
Wesley, a White Rock native, began his WHL career with the Giants, scoring in his only game in a Vancouver uniform before being traded to Lethbridge prior to the trade deadline last season. In 31 games with the Hurricanes in 2014/15, Wesley scored five goals and five assists. This season, the 18-year-old has 11 goals and 10 assists in 21 games with the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL.
The Giants will be back in action at the Pacific Coliseum on December 2nd for Toonie Wednesday when the club hosts the Medicine Hat Tigers! For tickets, visit or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
