The Regina Pats kicked off a 9 game stretch of road games on Friday night in Brandon against the Wheat Kings. The Pats took a 3 game winning streak into the contest, most recently beating the medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday 4-2. Tyler Brown made 35 saves in the victory while Austin Wagner led the way with a goal and as assist. The Wheat Kings were also coming off a win over Medicine Hat. Theirs came on Wednesday 6-2 with Logan Thompson making 42 saves and Reid Duke and Ivan Provorov had three points a piece. The Wheat Kings beat the Pats in the two teams first meeting of the season back on October 3rd, 6-0 thanks to 4 goals from Jayce Hawryluk. The Pats got Connor Hobbs back from injury for Friday night and Aaron Macklin was also back after serving his 5 game suspension. Colby Williams was a late omission for Regina while Tim McGauley returned for the Wheat Kings after missing the last 21 games. Here are the lineups for the game with the starters highlighted.



Wheat Kings



Pats scratches - Williams, McAmmond, Elmer and Pouteau, 
Wheat Kings scratches - Taraschuk, Harrison, Shmyr and McCorrister. 

In the first period the Wheat Kings put the first 4 shots on goal but the Pats got the games first goal. Taylor Cooper had a puck go off his skate and into the right pad of Logan Thompson who made the save. However Kale Clague came in and put the puck into his own net to give the Pats the 1-0 lead. Cooper credited with his 2nd of the season, with assists to Sam Steel and Colton Kroeker at 4:18. The Wheat Kings poured it on after that. Tyler Brown made an absolutely brilliant save on Tim McGauley on a back door feed to keep the Pats up by 1. Eventually the Wheat Kings broke through at 18:18. Jayce Hawryluk tipped in a point shot for his 12th of the year. Colton Waltz the lone assist and it was 1-1. That was the score at the break with the Wheat Kings leading on the shot clock 17-4.

In the second the Pats got their first powerplay early and had some chances but did not score. The Wheat Kings took the lead a short time later when Stelio Mattheos buried his 3rd off a faceoff win from Tanner Kaspick at 5:24 and it was 2-1. The Wheat Kings got their first powerplay right after that and had a ton of zone time and chances but Tyler Brown continued to stand on his head and kept the pats within 1. The Pats had a couple of fast break chances from Colton Kroeker and Austin Wagner but Logan Thompson kept them out. Brandon got a second powerplay with 1:18 left in the period, the Pats killed that time and 42 seconds carried over into the 3rd with Brandon up by a goal. The Wheat Kings outshot the Pats 18-8 in the period and led 35-12 overall.

In the third the Pats had a great chance with a 4 minute powerplay but could not score. It stayed 2-1 thanks to another incredible period for the Pats Tyler Brown. The Pats went with the extra attacker late but could not find the tieing goal and the Wheat Kings won 2-1. Brandon outshot the Pats 18-4 in the period and 53-16 overall.

The Pats powerplay was oh for 3 in the game and the penalty kill was 3 for 3.

The third star of the game went to the Wheat Kings Jayce Hawryluk who had a goal in the win. The second star to the Pats Tyler Brown who stopped 51 of 53 shots faced and the first star to Brandon's Tim McGauley made his return to the lineup after missing the last 21. 

The Pats are right back at it Saturday night in Prince Albert against the Raiders at 7 o'clock on 620 CKRM.
