Pats - Rockets Game Day Preview

The Regina Pats (14-12-2-1) kick off a 3 game in 3 day weekend tonight when they host the Kelowna Rockets (22-6-1-0). Tonight is the 1st and only meeting of the season between the two clubs, the Rockets are currently the 4th ranked team in the CHL . Puck drop is at 7:00 with the pre-game at 6:35 on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up
The Pats dropped a 4-3 decision at home to the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday night at the Brandt Centre. Lane Zablocki, Connor Hobbs and Colton Kroeker provided the offense but the Hitmen battled back from 3, one goal deficits and got the game winner halfway through the 3rd period from Carsen Twarynski.

The Rockets were last in action on Saturday when they beat the Portland Winterhawks 4-2 for their 3rd straight win. Nick Merkley, Dillon Dube and Justin Kirkland each had 2 point nights and the Rockets outshot Portland 54-29 in the contest. The Rockets have won 8 of their last 10 and hold the best record in the WHL.

Zborovskiy Gone
Pats defenceman Sergey Zborovskiy is gone to Moscow Russia for selection camp for the 2016 World Junior Hockey Championship. Zborovskiy is one of three Russiand WHL players who are looking for a spot with the national team. The others are Ivan Provorov of the Brandon Wheat Kings and Radel Fazleev of the Calgary Hitmen.

Merkley and Chartier off with Team Canada
Rockets forwards Nick Merkley and Rourke Chartier are gone to selection camp for Team Canada for the World Juniors. Merkley is a 1st round pick of the Arizona Coyotes and is second in team scoring with 30 points. Chartier is a 4th round pick of the San Jose Sharks and he has 9 points in just 10 games played so far this year. The Rockets are also without Tomas Soustal who is at selection camp with the Czech Republic and Calvin Thurkauf is off with Team Switzerland. 

Hobbs Streaking
Pats defenceman Connor Hobbs has put together a really good stretch of offense. The 18-year-old Washing Capitals draft pick is riding a seven game point streak with 4 goals and 4 assists over that stretch. Hobbs is currently tied for 3rd amongst defenceman with 8 goals on the season. Calgary’s Jake bean leads the way with 12 goals.
