Raiders - Americans Trade

Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders announced Saturday that the club has acquired the rights to defenceman Mark Drohan and a conditional fifth round draft pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft from the Tri-City Americans in exchange for the rights to forward Mackenze Stewart.

A native of Calgary, AB, Drohan is in his second season with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League where he has recorded four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 25 games. The six-foot-two, 180-pound rearguard was selected by the Americans in the third round, 59th overall, in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft and was later signed by the team.

“Mark is a smart puck moving defenceman who could fit well within our group,” explained Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt. “This deal hinges on a decision by the Vancouver Canucks regarding where they would like to see Mackenze spend the rest of this season.”

On Saturday, the Raiders also announced they have recalled defenceman Ty Prefontaine from the Saskatoon Contacts of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. In 30 games with the Contacts, the 1999-born blue liner has two goals and 13 assists for 15 points.

The Raiders return to action on Sunday, December 27, when they host the Saskatoon Blades at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7:00 PM. To share the gift of hockey this holiday season, pick up the Raiders’ Co-op Holiday pack for only $65. The pack includes four adult flex tickets, a Raider toque, and $10 to spend at Prince Albert Co-op! For additional ticket information, visit or call 764-GAME.

While this is a conditional trade, it is in fact still a trade. I thought there was a moratorium on trades until the 27th or midnight tonight. Does anyone know what the loophole is here?
