RECAP: PATS 5 BLADES 0


The Regina Pats were in Saskatoon on Wednesday night for the first of eight meetings on the season with the Blades. The Pats carried a 14 game winning streak over Saskatoon into the game, two straight season sweeps, their last loss to their division rivals was on March 9th 2013. Regina lost their last contest on Saturday in Red Deer 2-1 where Tyler Brown made 37 saves int he loss while the Blades also lost their last game at hoem to Edmonton Saturday 3-1. The Pats held a 3 point advantage in the standings over the Blades heading into Wednesday night. Both Colby Williams and Austin Wagner did not suit up for the Pats in the game. Pats scratches - Knyzhov, Williams, Smith and Wagner. 
Blades scratches - Soshnin, Bishop and either MacKenzie. 

In the first period the Blades had the early jump and got two straight powerplays but the Pats killed them off and Adam Brooks hit the post short handed. The Pats got their first powerplay after the midway point and on it Adam Brooks fired, hit the post and the puck ricocheted off the skate of Rykr Cole and in for his 4th of the season at 13:31. Sam Steel the second assist and it was 1-0. Under 3 minutes later the Pats won a faceoff in the offensive zone and Aaron Macklin tipped in a point shot for his 2nd with assists to Brady Pouteau and Jake Leschyshyn at 16:01 and it was 2-0. 56 seconds later Adam Brooks cut to the slot and buried his team leading 13th into the top corner from Connor Hobbs to make it a 3-0 game at 16:57. That was it for Brock Hamm in the Blades goal, he allowed 3 goals on 11 shots and was replaced by Jake Morrissey. The Pats took a 3rd penalty with 1:40 left in the period but killed that time and 20 seconds carried into the 2nd. The Blades outshot Regina 14-12 in the period.

In the second the Pats killed off the penalty time and then took another minor which again they killed off. After that Adam Brooks made it a 4-0 Pats lead when he scored from a sharp angle into the top corner far side for his second of the night, 14th of the season. Adam Berg and Lane Zablocki the assists at 5:08. 17 seconds later Colton Kroeker took a pass right wing and snapped a shot from the right circle for his 5th with assists to Sam Steel and Taylor Cooper at 5:25 and it was 5-0. That's how the game stayed through 40 minutes, the Blades outshot the Pats 12-7 in the period and led 26-19 overall.

In the third the Pats had four powerplays and the lone goal they scored was called off on goaltender interference. The Blades had one powerplay which the Pats killed off and Tyler Brown stopped all 6 shots he faced in the 3rd and completed his first career WHL shutout with 32 stops. The Pats win their 15th straight over the Blades 5-0 the final score.

The Pats powerplay was 1 for 6 in the game while the penalty kill was 6 for 6.

The third star of the game went to the Pats Connor Hobbs who had an assist in the game. The second star to Tyler Brown who made 32 saves for his first ever shutout and the first star to Adam Brooks who scored twice and added an assist. 

The Pats play their 8th straight road game on Friday in Brandon against the Wheat Kings with a 7:30 puck drop on 620 CKRM.
