Kootenay trades Philp to Red Deer

Cranbrook, BC -- Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club today announced the Club has acquired 20 year-old Forward Presten Kopeck, 17 year-old Defenseman Ryan Pouliot, the rights to 16 year-old Forward Tanner Sidaway along with second and third round picks in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for Forward Luke Philp.

"Luke Philp has been our leader for several years and it is certainly tough to see him leave our Club. He will get a great opportunity to showcase his skill and character with Red Deer as they build towards the MasterCard Memorial Cup. That increased exposure will hopefully lead to him earning an opportunity to continue his career at the professional level. We thank Luke for his many contributions to the Kootenay ICE both on and off the ice over his five years with the Club," added Chynoweth.

Luke Philp departs the ICE tied for the Club lead in scoring with 29 points this season (13-16-29). He is tied for sixth among franchise leaders in assists (140) and points (235), and tied for ninth among career leaders in goals (95) in 247 career regular-season games played. Philp was named the Kootenay ICE Most Valuable Player in 2015, and was awarded the ICE Players’ Award each of the past two seasons.

Presten Kopeck was a third round selection by the Portland Winterhawks in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. In 224 career WHL games with Portland and Red Deer, Kopeck has compiled 115 career points (46-69-115).

Ryan Pouliot was an 11th round selection by the Saskatoon Blades in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. In 14 career WHL games, all with Red Deer, Pouliot has recorded two points (0-2-2).
Tanner Sidaway was listed by the Red Deer Rebels in September 2014. In 24 games with the Westshore Wolves of the Junior “B” Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League this season, Sidaway has compiled seven points (5-2-7).

The ICE are now carrying 25 players (two Goaltenders, nine Defensemen and 14 Forwards).
