The Regina Pats were in Saskatoon on Saturday for the back half of a home and hoem set with the Saskatoon Blades. The Pats won the opener at the Brandt Centre on Friday 4-0 thanks to a 28 save shutout from Tyler Brown and Riley Woods led the offense with 2 goals. The win put the Pats 11 points up on the Blades in the East Division standings. The Pats held a 3-1-0-1 record against the Blades heading into Saturdays 6th meeting of the season. The Pats were again without Colby Williams and Connor Hobbs on the back end as well as forwards Adam Berg, Aaron Macklin and Jared McAmmond. The Blades were also missing their leading scorer Cameron Hebig and overage defenceman Bryton Sayers for a second straight game. Here are the lineups for the game with the starters highlighted.

In the first period the Blades got off to a fast start when Braylon Shmyr stole a puck right in front of the Pats goal and then scored his 13th at 1:11 and it was 1-0. Then after offsetting minors the Pats took another penalty and went down 4 on 3. The Blades made it 2-0 when Connor Gay ripped a puck into the top corner for his 16th with assists to Wyatt Sloboshan and Dustin Perillat at 3:02 and it was 2-0. The Pats turned the momentum on the powerplay after that. Jared Freadrich jammed in his 4th on a scramble in the crease at 6:35. Sam Steel and Adam Brooks the assists and it was 2-1. The Pats got the game back even at 15:52 when Adam Brooks led a two on one and fed Robbie Holmes who buried his 2nd goal in as many games in the WHL and it was 2-2. That was the score after one with the Pats leading on the shot clock 13-6.

In the second the Blades got off to another fast start and 34 seconds in Wyatt Sloboshan finsihed his own rebound for his 13th with the lone assist to Libor Hajek and it was 3-2. Then 27 seconds later the Blades went up 4-2 when Braylon Shmyr fed Nick Zajac in front and he scored his 12th at 1:01. The game stayed that way until 15:29 when Braylon Shmyr scored his second of the night and 14th to make it 5-2. The Pats got that one back 17 seconds later when Adam Brooks fed Riley Woods all alone in front and he buried his 5th on the back hand. Sergey Zborovskiy the second helper and it was 5-3 at 15:46. That was the score after 40 minutes, the Pats outshot Saskatoon 12-11 in the period and led 25-17 overall.

In the third Jordan Hollet replaced Tyler Brown in the Pats goal to start the period. Colton Waltz made it 6-3 Saskatoon just 1:43 into the frame with his 3rd of the year on a nice end to end rush that he finished on the wrap around. Then at 11:17 Braylon Shmyr completed his hattrick when he banked a shot from the goalline off the back of Jordan Hollett and in for his 15th with assists to Colton Waltz and Jantzen Leslie and it was 7-3, that was the final score. The Blades outshot the Pats 8-7 in the period but the Pats led overall 32-25.

The Pats went one for 4 on the powerplay in the game and the penalty kill was 1 for 2.

The third star of the game went to the Blades Colton Waltz who had a goal and an assist. The second star to Saskatoons Nick Zajac who scored in his 300th career game and the first star to Braylon Shmyr who had a hattrick and an assist. 

The Pats are off now until Friday when they will host the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Brandt Centre at 7 o'clock.
