RECAP: PATS 4 BLADES 0

The Regina Pats kicked off a big weekend against their divison rivals the Saskatoon Blades on Friday night at the Brandt Centre. The Pats entered the day 9 points up on Saskatoon in the Eastern Conference standings. The Pats were coming off a 4-0 loss to Brandon on Sunday and the Blades lost their last game, also to the Wheat Kings 6-2 on Saturday. The Pats were 2-1-0-1 against the Blades heading into Friday's contest but were without defencemen Connor Hobbs and Colby Williams as well as forwards Adam Berg, Aaron Macklin and Jared McAmmond. As a result the team called up 16-year-old forward Robbie Holmes from the Sherwood Park Kings of the AMHL. The Blades were missing their top scorer Cameron Hebig as well as defenceman Bryton Sayers. In the first period the Pats got off to a great start and scored 1:40 in. Austin Wagner banged in a rebound for his 18th with assists to Adam Brooks and Rykr Cole and it was 1-0. The team kept pressing after that and thought they had the 2-0 lead but the goal was called off on inconclusive evidence. They did find the 2-0 goal on the powerplay at the 15 minute mark. Chase Harrison found Riley Woods with a cross ice feed and Woods buried his 3rd. Sergey Zborovskiy with the second helper on the poweprlay goal. The Pats took the 2-0 lead to the break and led on the shot clock 15-7.

In the second the Blades started to find their game and Tyler Brown had to be sharp. Saskatoon had two poweprlays in the period and Brown stood tall keeping the Pats ahead by 2. The Pats had a powerplay of their own in the period but did not score. They almost went ahead 3-0 twice. First Rykr Cole hit the post on a wide open net and then in the dying seconds Brock Hamm made a massive save on Cole Sanford in tight to keep it 2-0 and that was the score after 2. The Blades outshot the Pats 13-11 in the period but Regina led overall 26-20.

In the third the Pats made it 3-0 at 1:46. Riley Woods burned up the right wing and scored his second of the night, 4th of the season from Lane Zablocki and Chase Harrison. 59 seconds later Luc Smith took a turnover and fired off the cross bar. Robbie Holmes followed, gloved down the loose puck and scored his first career WHL in his first ever game at 2:45 to make it 4-0 Regina. Tyler Brown did the rest stopping 8 shots in the frame and 28 overall for his second career shutout. The Pats outshot Saskatoon 11-8 in the period and 37-28.

The Pats powerplay was 1 for 5 in the game while the penalty kill was 3 for 3.

The third star of the game went to the Pats Chase Harrison who had two assists in the win. The second star to Tyler Brown who made 28 saves for the shutout and the first star to Riley Woods who scored twice.
