Pats - Broncos Game Day Preview

The Regina Pats (24-23-3-4) hit the road today for an afternoon contest in Swift Current against the Broncos. (20-28-4-2). Tonight is third of six meetings between the two clubs with the Pats holding a 1-1-0-0 record against their division rivals. The Broncos enter the day 9 points back of Edmonton and Regina for the last playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. The Pats are looking to snap a 5 game road losing streak. Puck drop is at 2:00 with the pre-game at 1:35 on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up
The Pats played a solid 60 minutes on Saturday night and beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-2 at the Brandt Centre. Tyler Brown made 30 saves and Cole Sanford led the way with 2 goals including the game winner.   

The Broncos were in action at home to Medicine Hat on Saturday and skated to a 4-1 victory. Tyler Steenbergen led the way with two goals and an assist while Lane Pederson had a goal and two helpers. Travis Child stopped 35 of 36 shots in the victory.

The Matchup
The Pats are 1-1-0-0 against the Broncos on the season. Regina won the last meeting between the two clubs at the Brandt Centre on January 1st, 4-3 in overtime. The Broncos were 3-1 winners on home ice on November 6th. Adam Brooks and Sam Steel lead the Pats in scoring against Swift Current with 3 points. Pats goaltender Tyler Brown is on a great stretch. The 18-year-old Winnipeg product, in four appearances in the month of February has a 3-0-0-0 record with a 1.69 G.A.A. and a .951 save percentage. Brown has improved his record to 12-14-1-4 on the season and his G.A.A. is down to 3.04 and save percentage up to .910.

100 Games
Pats defenceman James Hilsendager will play in his 100th WHL game this afternoon in Swift Current. The 18-year-old from Lloydminster is into his second season on the back end for the Pats. In his first 99 games, Hilsendager has 1 goal, 11 assists and 95 penalty minutes. He was originally a 9th round pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.
