Pats - Broncos Game Day Preview


The Regina Pats (35-27-3-5) look to make it five straight wins tonight when they host the Swift Current Broncos (24-37-6-3).Tonight is the 6th and final meeting between the two clubs on the year. The Pats are 3-1-0-1 in the first five games of the year. Puck drop is at 7:00 with the pre-game at 6:35 on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up
The Pats came from behind to beat the Saskatoon Blades 5-3 on Wednesday night at the Brandt Centre. The Pats outshot Saskatoon 21-1 in the first period but the game remained scoreless. The Blades took a 2-0 lead early in the second but the Pats battled back to win their fourth straight game. They outshot the Blades 49-20 in the contest, Jake Leschyshyn, Rykr Cole and Adam berg combined for two points apiece.    

The Broncos were last in action on Tuesday when they dropped a 6-2 decision in Brandon to the Wheat Kings. Glenn Gawdin and Jamal Watson scored for the Broncos while Travis Child made 41 saves in the loss. John Quenneville and Ivan Provorov each had three point nights for the Wheat Kings. 

The Matchup
The Pats and Broncos have met five previous times this season with the Pats holding a 3-1-0-1 record in those games. The Pats have scored 16 times to the Broncos 14 in the season series. Three times games have gone past regulation, twice settled in a shootout and once in overtime. Sam Steel leads the Pats with a goal and 7 points in 5 games against the Broncos and goaltender Tyler Brown is 1-1-0-1 with a 2.22 GAA and a .940 save percentage. Swift Currents Jon Martin has 5 goals and 7 points and Tyler Steenbergen also has 7 against the Pats this year. The Pats enter the day, one point back of Moose Jaw for third in the East Division with two games left. 

He’s Back!
Pats captain Colby Williams made his long awaited return to the lineup on Wednesday against the Saskatoon Baldes. The 20-year-old Washington Capitals prospect had an assist in the second period of his first game back. Williams had missed the previous 29 games with injury. In 17 games this season, Williams has 5 goals and 12 points. 

Third Line Success
The trio of Jake Leschyshyn, Rykr Cole and Adam Berg where difference makers in Wednesday’s win over Saskatoon. The line combined to tie the game 3-3 and then get the eventual game winner from Jake Leschyshyn on their very next shift. Leschyshyn is riding a 3 game point streak with a goal and 3 assists in that stretch. Ryke Cole set a new career high in points on Wednesday with 23 and he has two goals and an assist in his last three games. Berg snapped a 9 game pointless streak on Wednesday with a 2 assist effort as well.
