Pats - Broncos Game Day Preview


The Regina Pats (31-27-3-5) look to snap a two game slide tonight when they hit the road to take on the Swift Current Broncos (23-35-5-3). Tonight is the fifth of six meetings on the season between the two clubs. The Pats are 2-1-0-1 in the first four games. Puck drop is at 7:00 with the pre-game at 6:35 on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up
The Pats suffered a disappointing defeat on home ice on Sunday, 8-1 at the hands of the Brandon Wheat Kings. Cole Sanford scored the Pats lone goal in the final period, his 38th of the season. Jayce Hawryluk and Ivan Provorov each had three point nights for the Wheat Kings. 

The Broncos hosted the Moose Jaw Warriors on Monday night and led 4-2 early in the third period but the Warriors scored four unanswered to win 6-4. Dryden Hunt led the way with two goals and an assist for Moose Jaw in the victory. 

The Matchup
The Pats and Broncos have met four previous times this year with the Pats winning two of those, once in overtime the other in a shootout. The Broncos have scored 12 goals in the season series to the Past 11. Adam Brooks and Sam Steel lead the Pats with 5 points against Swift and Tyler Brown has a 1-1-0-1 record with a 2.22 GAA and a .940 save percentage. The Broncos Jon martin has 6 points against the Pats while Tyler Steenbergen has 5. The Pats enter the day 6 points back of Moose Jaw for third in the East Division with a game in hand while the Broncos are 9 points back of Edmonton for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 6 games left on the schedule.  

Brooks Extends Streak
Pats forward Adam Brooks managed to keep his league leading point streak to 18 games in Sundays 8-1 loss to Brandon. Brooks assisted on Cole Sanfords 38th of the year in the third period for his 38th point in the streak. Brooks has 8 goals and 30 assists in that stretch and sits one point behind the Moose Jaw Warriors Dryden Hunt for the WHL scoring lead. Hunt has 110 points to brooks 109, Brooks has played one less game which he will make up tonight in Swift Current. 

Sanford Rolling
Cole Sanford is playing at the top of his game late in the season with the Pats. The 20-year-old Vernon B.C. product scored his 5th goal in his last 3 games on Sunday, it was his 38th of the year. In 24 games with the Pats, Sanford has scored 17 times and has 28 points. He has been kept off the score sheet just 7 times in his Pats career and is 2nd in team scoring overall with 66 points.
