Pats - Warriors Game Day Preview


The Regina Pats (33-27-3-5) look for a third consecutive victory when they hit the road for the back half of their home and home set with the Moose Jaw Warriors (34-25-7-2). Tonight is the eighth and final meeting of the season between the two clubs. The Pats are 3-2-1-1 in the first seven meetings. Puck drop is at 7:00 with the pre-game at 6:35 on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up
The Pats dominated the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night outshooting their opponents 48-28 but Zach Sawchenko was fantastic making 44 saves and it took a shootout for the Pats to pick up the 5-4 victory. Adam Brooks and Lane Zablocki led the way with a goal and an assist for the Pats while Sam Steel scored the shootout winner.  

The Matchup
The Pats hold a 3-2-1-1 record against the Warriors heading into tonight’s 8th and final meeting of the regular season. The Warriors have scored 25 goals to the Pats 20 in the season series, five of the first seven games have gone past regulation with the Pats winning three of those including last night. Adam Brooks has two goals and 7 assists for 9 points against the Warriors while Dryden Hunt has 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points for Moose Jaw. With the shootout win last night the Pats got to within three points of the Warriors for third in the East Division with four games left on the regular season schedule. Regina needs a regulation win tonight and then one more win than the Warriors in the final three games to pass Moose Jaw in the standings. 

It’s All Tied Up
The Pats Adam Brooks had a goal and an assist last night against Moose Jaw while Dryden Hunt had one goal. That leaves both players with 111 points on the season, tied for the WHL scoring lead. Hunt extended his point streak to 6 games with 6 goals and 6 assists while Brooks in his last 20 games has 40 points. 

Sanford Hits 40
Cole Sanford scored his 40th goal of the season on Friday night against the Warriors in the second period. It came shorthanded to tie the game at 3-3, it was Sanford’s second short handed goal in as many games. The overage forward now has 19 goals as a Pat in 26 games to go along with 12 assists. Sanford has scored at least a goal in every one of the Pats five games in the month of March, he has 7 goals in those games and also has a six game point streak going with those 7 goals and 2 assists.
