The Pats got a three point night from Adam Brooks and two more from Cole Sanford in the loss. Already without Justin Gutierrez, the Hurricanes also lost forward Jordy Bellerive to injury in game 1. However they did get defenceman Darian Skeoch back from suspension for game 2. Here are the lineups for the contest with the starters highlighted.

In the first period the Pats had a great early chance when a puck appeared to get in behind Stuart Skinner and sit in the crease but Connor Hobbs could not poke it across the goal line. Then on a 3 on 2 Sam Steel one timed a back door feed but somehow Skinner got across to his left and made a massive save. The Hurricanes had some chances of their own after that, Tyler Wong was denied on a breakaway by Tyler Brown and Carter Folk also failed to convert on a breakaway after that. The Canes got the games first powerplay but the Pats killed it off. The Pats got their first powerplay with 34 seconds left in the period, did not score and 1:26 carried over into the 2nd. The teams were scoreless after 1 with the Pats leading on the shot clock 11-8.

In the second the Pats did not convert on their remaining powerplay time but did get the games first goal a short time later. Riley Woods a great play in the corner stole a puck and he centered for Adam Brooks who outwaited Stuart Skinner and buried his 2nd of the playoffs at 4:13 to make it 1-0. The Hurricanes pushed back after that but Tyler Brown made a fantastic blocker save on a tip play to keep the Pats in the lead. The Pats went to their second penalty kill of the contest later on in the period but spent the entire second half of the disadvantage in the offensive one and Adam Brooks came within inches of his second of the game but hit the cross bar. The Pats killed off the penalty and took the 1-0 lead to the intermission. The Canes outshot Regina 8-7 in the period but the Pats led overall 18-16.

In the final period the Pats went ahead 2-0 just 1:35 in. Adam Brooks on a partial breakaway beat Stuart Skinner for his second of the game with assists to Austin Wagner and Connor Hobbs. The Canes almost responded just seconds later but Brayden Burke hit the post. The game stayed 2-0 until late when the Hurricanes pulled Skinner for the extra attacker and that's when Sam Steel tipped in his 1st from Cole Sanford and Jake Leschyshyn to make it 3-0 Regina at 18:34 and that was the final score. Tyler Brown with 27 saves for his first career playoff shutout, the Canes outshot Regina 11-10 in the third but the Pats led 28-27 overall.

The Pats powerplay was oh for 1 in the win and the penalty kill was 3 for 3.

The third star of the game went to the Hurricanes Stuart Skinner who stopped 25 of 27 shots faced. The second star to the Pats Tyler Brown who made 27 saves for the shutout and the first star to the Pats Adam Brooks who scored twice, including the game winner.

The Pats will host game 3 on Tuesday night at the Brandt Centre at 7 o'clock on 620 CKRM.

It sounded like a bush league thing by the PA announcer on the three star announcement. I'm betting Brooks along with the rest of the team were ushered to the dressing room on Friday by the HC. There was much to be said so no doubt nobody was allowed out to accept a star award. I guess those antics come from not understanding protocol and how to behave resulting from being out of playoffs for the better part of a decade.

Actually the Hurricanes staff didn't grab Brooks before he got to the room. He was already half undressed once they announced his name. Didn't even know he was a star

That's even worse yet. No ned to embarrass a guy the following night. Maybe serve as another motivational tool. You sure sounded ticked…LOL
