Pats - Rebels Game 5 Preview


The Regina Pats (6-3) visit the Enmax Centrium in Red Deer for game 5 of their second round series with the Rebels (6-3). The two clubs had split the first four games of the series with the home team winning each time. Puck drop is at 7 o'clock with the pre-game at 6:35 on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up
The Regina Pats jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second period of game 4 and held on from their for a 6-4 victory. The Rebels got to within a goal in the third but Cole Sanford sealed the win for Regina with an empty netter. Lane Zablcoki scored a hattrick in the win for the Pats and Tyler Brown made 44 saves in goal. Jake DeBrusk recorded three assists for the Rebels in the loss. 

First Goal Troubles
In all four games in this series, the team that has scored first has gone on to lose the game. The Pats opened the scoring in both road games to start and lost 3-2 and 4-3. The Rebels scored first in both games in Regina and lost 6-3 and 6-4. In the WHL playoffs this year, if you exclude the four games between the Pats and Rebels, the team that has scored first has gone 38-14. Both the Pats and Rebels are 5-3 when scoring first in these playoffs. 

Powerplay Rolling
The Pats powerplay continues to give the Rebels fits in this second round matchup. The Pats have scored an incredible 11 goals on 25 opportunities for a 44 per cent efficiency.
