The Lead Up
The Rebels scored on a 5 on 3 powerplay early in game 5 to make it 1-0, scored in the second and then added 3 more in the third for a 5-0 lead. The Pats got one back from Sean Richards but dropped the contest 5-1 and trail in the series 3-2. Brandon Hagel had a goal and an assist in the win while Luke Philp had two assists and Rylan Toth made 28 saves. Tyler Brown stopped 37 of 42 shots faced in the loss for the Pats.

The Matchup
Through 5 games, the home team has won every contest in this series. The Rebels have outscored the Pats 19-18 but Regina is up 12-7 at the Brandt Centre. Adam Brooks and Cole Sanford lead the Pats with 7 points in the series while Tyler Brown has a 2-3 record with a 3.92 GAA and a .895 save percentage. The Rebels are led by Luke Philp who has 7 points and Trevor Martin and Rylan Toth have combined for a 3-2 record, a ,894 save percentage and a 3.80 GAA. 11 of the Pats 19 goals have come with the man advantage.

Penalty Kill Rebounds
Both the Pats and Rebels penalty kills were much better in game 5 than they were in the previous four games of the series. The Pats entered the game having gone 11 for 25 with the man advantage but the Rebels did not allow a goal on 5 times short handed including a 5 minute major and a double minor for high sticking. The Pats meanwhile did give up the one goal down two men but went four for four after that. The Pats and Rebels remain number 1 and 3 in terms of powerplay percentage in the WHL Playoffs respectively.

Bucking The Trend
Game 5 was the first time in this second round series that the team that has scored the first goal in a game has gone on to win. The Pats opened the scoring in both games one and two in Red Deer but went on to lose and then the Rebels scored first in games three and four but Regina came back to win both times. Red Deer opened the scoring in game 5, 3:04 in and did not look back from there, it was also the first tie the home team had scored first in any of the games.

Upcoming Schedule
Game 7 – Pats @ Rebels – April 19, 7:00 PM – Enmax Centrium (CKRM) (If necessary)

Certainly hope hope the home ice wins keep happening for at least one more game.

The goaltending in this series has been very poor on both sides. Hopefully Brown will start to rebound and fix the short side issue he's been victimized on.

If you want to be a champion you need to play like one. When your fighting a grizzly every grizzly fighter has to show up.

If it wasn't for stellar goaltending last year in playoffs by Wapple the Pats wouldn't have had as good of a playoff run as they did. The team was younger after all the trades last season then they are this year. Not only younger in terms of age but also game experience.

If they use the whole bench instead of the select favorites they will do much better today. When the whole bench is used they are much more successful.
