RECAP: Pats force Game 7

The Regina Pats hosted game 6 of their second round series with the Red Deer Rebels on Sunday. The Pats needed a win to force a seventh and deciding game on Tuesday night in Red Deer. The Rebels took game 5 on home ice on Friday with a 5-1 win on the back of a goal and an assist from Brandon Hagel, two assists from Luke Philp and 28 saves from Rylan Toth. Sean Richards provided the only offense for the Pats whose powerplay went oh for 5 in the loss. The Rebels got defenceman Colton Bobyk back from suspension for game 6 while the Pats were without forwards Adam Berg and Riley Woods due to injury. Here are the lineup's for the contest with the starters highlighted.

Pats scratches - Berg, Woods, Holmes, Pouteau, Barteaux and Schioler. 
Rebels scratches - Weatherill, Sass, Bleackley, Nikolishin, Johnson, Bains, Sakowich and Schmoorkoff. 

In the first period the Pats got off to a great start when Jared McAmmond found a loose puck in the crease and banged in his first of the playoffs at 2:24. Sam Steel and Rykr Cole the assists and it was 1-0 Pats. They kept coming after that as well, Sean Richards had a great chance in tight that Rylan Toth stopped with the right pad and he found a few screen shots from the blueline to keep the Pats lead at 1-0. The Rebels found a tieing goal at 12:20 when Jake DeBrusk buried his own rebound forhis 5th from Colton Bobyk and Luke Philp and it was a 1-1 game. The Pats got the first powerplay of the game late in the period and came close but could not score and we went to the break tied 1-1. The Pats outshot Red Deer 10-6 in the period.

In the second the Pats took the lead back just 24 seconds in. Connor Hobbs got a wrist shot away from the right point and it beat a screened Rylan Toth for his 4th with assists to Austin Wagner and Adam Brooks and it was 2-1. The Pats kept on pressing and at 5:36 made it 3-1 when Cole Sanford hammered in a rebound from the slot for his 7th with assists to Sergey Zborovskiy and Sean Richards. 8 minutes later Lane Zablocki stole a puck from Jake DeBrusk and fired one into the top corner from the slot, his 7th of the post season unassisted at 13:03 and it was 4-1. The Pats did not allow a shot the rest of the period and took the three goal lead to the break. The Pats outshot Red Deer 22-4 in the period and led 32-10 overall.

In the third the Pats clamped things down and eventually got the lead to 5-1 at 7:07 when Colby Williams put in a rebound for his 2nd with assists to Connor Hobbs and Sam Steel. The Pats just worked their way through the remaining minutes and won 5-1 and forced a 7th game on Tuesday night in Red Deer. The Rebels outshot the Pats 11-8 in the third but the Pats led 40-21 overall.

The Pats powerplay was oh for 2 in the contest while the penalty kill was 1 for 1.

The third star of the game went to the Pats Jared McAmmond who opened the scoring. The second star to Cole Sanford who also scored and the first star to Connor Hobbs who had a goal and an assist in the win. 

The Pats will visit the Rebels in game 7 on Tuesday at 7 o'clock on 620 CKRM.

I am sure he will be back for the series against Brandon. We will need him fer sure.

Wish they would show game 7 on the big screen in the Brandt Centre for the locals that don't have Access cable. Maybe make a food bank donation as an entrance fee to the game or a small donation.

Hey Thrill, is Red Deer starting Toth again in Game 7? I've convinced myself they have a goalie controversy now...haha

Who knows haha. Will find out at 5 tomorrow when the lineup's come out. Would be surprised if it wasn't Toth
