MEMORIAL CUP: HUSKIES 5 WHEAT KINGS 3

San Jose Sharks 1st round pick Timo Meier scored twice to lead the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies to a 5-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on day 2 of the Mastercard Memorial Cup.

The Wheat Kings opened the scoring thanks to Reid Duke but surrendered 5 unanswered through the rest of the first period and the second and trailed 5-1 heading to the third.

That's when Brandon turned it on and outshot the Huskies 20-4 in the frame. The Wheat Kings got two back but dropped their opening contest 5-3.

Brandon outshot the QMJHL Champs 41-29 in the loss.

The Huskies (1-0) are right back at it on Sunday when they take on the host Red Deer Rebels (0-1). Puck drops at 5 o'clock.

Hey Phil,

Any insider information, if the Pats are going to make a bid for the 2018 Memorial Cup (100th year)? Seems fitting as the team is dubbed as the oldest major junior hockey franchise and the current roster "should" be at peaking that year.

Bepoleon.
