Oil Kings trade Lee to Kootenay

Cranbrook, BC -- Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club today announced the Club has acquired 20 year-old Goaltender Payton Lee from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a conditional sixth round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

"Payton Lee is an experienced goaltender in the WHL and is a character individual. He will step into our lineup and serve as a leader and a mentor not only to Declan Hobbs, but to the rest of our group as well. We are excited to welcome Payton back to Cranbrook to finish his WHL career at home," added Chynoweth.

Payton Lee was a second round selection (28th overall) by the Vancouver Giants in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft. He was traded to the Edmonton Oil Kings in November 2015 for a sixth round bantam pick. In 168 career WHL regular season games with Vancouver and Edmonton, Lee has compiled a 61-86-7-4 record with a 3.36 goals-against average and .884 save percentage. He was a silver medalist with Team Pacific at the 2013 IIHF World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Quebec.
