Silvertips acquire goaltender from Edmonton
EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips and general manager Garry Davidson announced today the team has acquired goaltender Austin McGrath from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a conditional seventh round selection in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
McGrath, 18, was named recipient of the Bill Ranford Award for league’s top goaltender, selected first team All-Star, and received the league’s Most Valuable Playoff Performer honor this season with the Lloydminster Bobcats (AMHL) with a 12-3-2 record in 17 games, a .925 save percentage, four shutouts, and a league best 1.81 goals-against-average.
He backstopped the Bobcats to a TELUS Cup appearance and AMHL championship with six shutouts in nine postseason appearances, leading the league with a .980 save percentage and 0.44 goals-against-average. The native of Lloydminster earned a gold medal at the Western Canada Challenge Cup in 2013-14.
McGrath was originally selected by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the fourth round (76th overall) of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
