Wheat Kings Patrick named WHL Player of the Week

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Brandon Wheat Kings forward Nolan Patrick has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending May 1st, 2016. 

Patrick collected seven points and a plus-5 rating for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the final three games of the WHL Eastern Conference Championship against the Red Deer Rebels.

After suffering a 6-2 loss to the Rebels in Game 3 of the WHL Eastern Conference Championship on April 26th, Patrick and the Wheat Kings responded with a strong effort in Game 4 the following night. Patrick collected two assists as the Wheat Kings skated to a 4-2 victory over the Rebels to grab a 3-1 series cushion. On Friday, April 29th, Patrick was in on all five Wheat Kings’ goals as he notched a hat-trick and two assists in Brandon’s 5-2 nod over the Rebels in Game 5.  Patrick was named the game’s first star as the Wheat Kings advanced to the WHL Championship for the second straight year.

The 17-year-old native of Winnipeg, MB recorded 102 points (41g-61a) to go along with a stellar plus-51 rating in 72 regular season contests. His 24 playoff points (10g-14a) are tied for first amongst all WHL skaters. The 6-3, 195 lb forward is in his second WHL campaign with Brandon and has amassed 159 points (72g-87a) in 130 career WHL regular season contests.

The WHL has also nominated Landon Bow of the Seattle Thunderbirds for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Bow, a 1995-born netminder from St. Albert, AB posted a record of 2-0-0-0 with a 2.05 goals against average and a .928 save percentage. On Tuesday, April 26th, Bow was solid as he turned aside 36 shots to lead the Thunderbirds to a 3-1 victory over the Kelowna Rockets in Game 3 of the WHL Western Conference Championship. Bow was named the game’s first star for his efforts. The following night, Bow made 28 saves to guide the Thunderbirds to a dramatic 5-4 double overtime win to clinch the series over the Rockets and advance to the WHL Championship. Currently in his first WHL campaign with Seattle, Bow has posted a 74-56-8-5 record with a 2.91 goals against average and a .912 save percentage with 15 shutouts in 160 career WHL regular season appearances.
