With the final pick of the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft the Anaheim Ducks selected Regina Pats forward Sam Steel, 30th overall.

The pick originally belonged to Pittsburgh but was traded to Toronto in the Phil Kessel deal. The Leafs then flipped it to Anaheim for goaltender Frederik Anderson.

Steel becomes the first player in Pats history to be drafted to the Ducks. He had 70 points in 72 regular season games this year and added 16 more points in 12 playoff games.

Rounds 2 through 7 of the draft will take place Saturday starting at 8 AM.
