The Regina Thunder offence exploded for 58 points and the defence held Winnipeg to just two field goals in a 58-7 route of the Rifles on Saturday night at Investors Group Field.

The two clubs traded field goals to start the game and then Winnipeg kicked another and held a 6-3 lead. However late in the quarter Sawyer Buettner threw his first touchdown of the year to Kris Calcutt with 1:43 left and it was 10-6 Regina.

The Rifles conceded a safety in the second to make it 12-6 and then the Thunder made it 19-6 on a touchdown catch from Kristiane Desautels. Victor St. Pierre-Laviolette added to the lead with his 4th touchdown of the season along the ground to make it 28-6. The Rifles were set up at the 1 yard line late in the half but the Thunder defence stuffed them at the goal line and took the 22 point lead into halftime.

In the third quarter Buettner threw a second and third touchdown to Kris Calcutt to extend the lead to 41-6, that was the score after three quarters.

In the final stanza the Thunder offence continued to roll adding 17 more points and took the contest 58-7.

With the win the Thunder will exit week 3 in a tie for 2nd place in the PFC with the loser of the Saskatoon Hilltops and Calgary Colts game on Sunday afternoon.

The Thunder (2-1) return home in week 4 against Winnipeg (1-2) at Leibel Field on September 3rd.
