The Regina Thunder open the 2016 regular season at home to the Edmonton Huskies on Sunday at 1 PM at Mosaic Stadium. The Thunder are the 4th ranked team in the country heading into the season. In 2015 the Thunder finished 2nd in the PFC with a 6-2 record while the Huskies were tied for last at 1-7. The Thunder went two and oh against the Huskies in 2015 with a 76-9 win at Clarke Park in Edmonton and then 29-6 in Regina to finish the regular season.

THUNDER OFFENSE - In 2015 the Thunder scored the most points in the PFC with 340. QB Jaeden Marwick threw for 1670 yards and 19 touchdowns but this is Sawyer Beuttner's team now. He had 485 yard in passing in limited action in 2015 and passed for 7 TD's. Kasim Ocaya led the way with 443 receiving yards and 5 scores and Colton Klassen led the entire league with 911 rushing yards. Klassen has since moved on as well.

HUSKIES OFFENSE - Edmonton scored 183 points in 2015, second worst in the PFC. Brad Launhardt threw for 1118 yards and 7 touchdowns. Brennan McNeil led in receiving yards with 371 and one touchdown while Jimmie Airey ran for 745 yards and 4 scores.

THUNDER DEFENCE - The Regina defence gave up 164 points in 2015, the second least in the PFC. Marcus Hall led the team with 20 tackles, Dustin Erbach led the team with 3 interceptions and Matthew Williams had 2 sacks.

HUSKIES DEFENCE - Edmonton gave up a league worst 365 points in 2015. Branden Modin led the team with 33 tackles which was 2nd best in the PFC. Micheal Getzinger and Brandon Mellen both had two interceptions and Hayward Beasley led the club with 3 sacks.

THUNDER SPECIAL TEAMS - Kristiane Desautels had 224 total yards in kick returns last year, Victor St. Pierre - Laviolette had 212. Kris Calcutt was 10 of 14 kicking field goals and punted 29 times for a 35.9 yard average.

HUSKIES SPECIAL TEAMS - Landon Rosene had 570 total yards in kick returns, that was second best in the PFC. Cole Sabourin hit 12 of 14 field goals attempted and punted 46 times for a 32.1 yard average.

Kickoff is at 1 o'clock at Mosaic Stadium.
